What are meridians?

Meridians function as a network like a highway system that can be mapped out throughout the body. They are invisible pathways/highways in which the energy flows. There are twelve main pathways/meridians and they correspond with the connections and routes of muscles, endocrine glands and the nervous system. They are each associated with specific organs. Anything that disrupts the flow along these meridians is said to cause illness.
