What is a chakra?

In Sanskrit, “chakra” means wheel of light. Chakras act like energy transformers; they are the power source for the body. There are seven main chakras and based on their location, are connected to key endocrine glands and areas of nervous system function throughout the body. They are shaped like a funnel or cone and spin clockwise when functioning properly. The chakras job is to receive energy from around us and nourish a particular area of the body. Each chakra also has a specific color and sound frequency associated with it. They also hold an emotional and physiological aspect of health. Our chakras tend to close when we experience negativity, sadness and anger. Breathing techniques, meditation & intention in the releasing of the negativity help to open the flow of the positive energy.
